Methodology

Public evidence, bounded collection, explicit uncertainty

Compete is designed to be useful without pretending to possess private company databases.

Collection

The crawler accepts HTTP/HTTPS on ports 80/443, resolves targets to public IP addresses, pins the validated address for each request, revalidates redirects, enforces time/body/page limits, and honors robots.txt for discovered crawl paths.

Public sources

The platform uses submitted official websites, DNS, best-effort public RDAP data, certificate-transparency clues, and Phase-2 side-by-side comparison logic. External profile links are reported when the official site exposes them; Compete does not log into those services.

Evidence labels

Observed links and structured data are stronger than heuristic technology fingerprints or related-domain clues. Certificate names and brand-like domains are clues, not proof of ownership.

Privacy and safety

No login crawling, credential collection, private-network requests, arbitrary ports or active vulnerability scanning. Public contact details are only shown when exposed on the official public site.
